Sean Kinney: "Será interesante ver si encajamos en estos tiempos"

ha charlado con Sean Kinney, batería de , sobre el regreso del grupo, algo que pocos hubieran imaginado tras la muerte del insustituible Layne Staley.

“Bueno, es como si nos apagáramos por aquel entonces, cuandos las cosas empezaron a hundirse a nuestro alrededor. Tomamos la prudente decisión de no tocar más después pese a haber lanzado dos discos que fueron número uno. Nos ajustamos al plan de no hacer nada en diez años. Luego, además, estaba el hecho de que Layne había fallecido. Esto era algo (el regreso) que hubiera visto venir y que simplemente ha seguido su curso natural. Mientras nos sintamos bien (haciéndolo) y mole y sea genuino con nosotros y nos guste, es algo que nos ha llevado aquí. Las cosas van bastante bien. También será interesante. Ahora mimo es un mundo tan diferente el que hay ahí afuera.

Es un mundo donde la gente roba dinero y las compañías discográficas no pueden vender música. De alguna manera la han jodido. Son unos tiempos y situaciones tan diferentes; hay tantas incógnitas ahora. Va a molar…Lo genial es que puedes exponer tu música a mucha gente pero por otro lado la gente la quiere gratis. El tiempo en el estudio no es gratis; ponemos mucho esfuerzo y dinero en lo que hacemos. Esperan que estemos hablando 24 horas al día en blogs y tal. Pienso que eso le quita el misterio. No somos de esa ‘era’. Eso nunca fue lo ‘nuestro’. Será interesante ver como encajamos, si es que encajamos.“

Habla sobre como salió la idea de grabar un disco y qué tal va la grabación con Nick Rasculinecz (, , ), que de un tiempo a esta parte se ha convertido en uno de los productores más solicitados por bandas y artistas. “Bueno, teníamos algunas canciones en cartera y la cosa llegó al punto en que dijimos, ‘Hey, hagamos un disco’. Así que empezamos a pensar en productores, y Nick es un tipo como nosotros; no usamos muchas de las cosas que la gente usa hoy, no hacemos inspecciones de canciones ni hacemos nada con ‘auto-tunes’ ni mierdas de esas. Somos de la vieja escuela. Tocamos todo lo que oyes (risas) En cuanto al sonido, hace cosas geniales. Hace que lo que oigas sea lo que realmente pasa y eso nos gustó.“
